After spending 7 nights at The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Hobart in the relatively exotic destination, Tasmania, it was time to return to Sydney to wrap up my 1-month stay in Australia. For the first week before moving to a serviced apartment, I chose the Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park, centrally located in the heart of CBD and right next to Hyde Park, just 25 minutes away from the airport.
This property became my 5th Sheraton stay, following experiences in Melbourne, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Macau.
Checkin :
Before my arrival, the hotel confirmed my suite upgrade to the Grand Executive Suite, which set a positive tone for the stay. I arrived at the hotel at 7:30 pm, and check-in was both productive and thoughtful. The front desk staff ensured I had enough time to enjoy the lounge during its evening service. After a long day, this attention to detail left a good first impression.
Room :
From my experience in other Sheraton properties across Asia Pacific region, Sheraton properties feel the same across the board, and the one in Sydney was no exception with consistent in quality and predictability. The suite featured a large living area with practical furnishings, a comfortable desk for work, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Hyde Park, which was a lovely touch. The bathroom, with its deep soaking tub and separate shower, added a layer of luxury to the otherwise straightforward room.
For me, the Sheraton brand is like the Airbus A330—not the sexiest option out there, but certainly functional and reliable. It may lack the design flair or uniqueness of other hotels, but it consistently delivers in terms of cleanliness, status recognition, and prime locations. The furniture and decor are not particularly exciting, but they are always practical and comfortable.
Conclusion :
Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park remains a reliable option for short stays in Sydney, whether for business, leisure, or a quick stopover. Its prime location near Hyde Park provides easy access to Sydney's main attractions and the central business district, making it convenient for first-timers, business travellers, and holidaymakers alike.
In comparison to other Marriott properties in the city, such as the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel, Sheraton Grand Sydney stands out for its quieter, more refined atmosphere. Having stayed in Barangaroo for a month after Sheraton, I found the area around the Sheraton much less crowded, which was a welcome change.
If you're looking for a balanced mix of convenience and comfort with access to Sydney's top landmarks, Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park is a solid choice.
