After the fiasco in 3 Marriott properties, Mira Moon, Southside by Ovolo, and Le Méridien Hong Kong, Cyberport, I learnt the hard way that you have to pay a premium to get a good service in Hong Kong. This time, although the nightly rate is relatively expensive $225 - 250 USD per night, I chose to stay at Sheraton Hong Kong to have the
Check-in :
Unfortunately, the check-in process left much to be desired. The front desk staff mistakenly processed a deposit with an additional two extra zeros, which resulted in my American Express credit card being charged a good couple of thousand US dollars. This was an unfortunate start, and the error required time to resolve.
After the deposit issue was solved and a couple of hours later, we were notified that our room was ready, so we headed up, hoping to get some extra sleep. However, we found ourselves in a standard guest room instead of the suite upgrade which had been pre-confirmed by the Le Méridien staff. After contacting the front desk for clarification, I was told that the room assignment was the right one. After additional questions, they ultimately acknowledged the suite upgrade confirmation, but it took another hour before we were able to move to the appropriate room.
Room :
The manager told us the room is ready and we headed to the room to have a little bit of sleep. However, the room was just a standard guest room, which is different from the pre-confirmed suite upgrade I was guaranteed by the Le Meridian staff.
I called the front desk if the room assigned was the right one but the staff said yes. I questioned about the suite they confirmed and for the confirmation, I had to wait another 1 hour.
We repacked our suitcases and moved to the suite. Suite is okay, spacious and functional, less smell of the musty smell. The toilet and bathroom still felt relatively dirty. The construction quality if the room was questionable, the connecting shower room and the toilet had a leakage from the shower room, making the edge wall slightly mouldy.
Once settled into the suite, the experience improved, though there were still some issues. The suite was spacious and functional, with less of the mouldy smell sometimes found in properties in Hong Kong. However, the overall cleanliness of the bathroom left something to be desired. There were signs of wear and tear, such as leakage between the shower and toilet areas, causing slight mold on the edge wall. While the suite offered more comfort than the standard room, the construction quality raised concerns about maintenance.
Lounge :
One of the high points of the stay was the executive lounge, which offered a panoramic view of Hong Kong's iconic skyline. The canapés were well-prepared and provided a pleasant touch, making the lounge an inviting space to relax and unwind.
Conclusion :
Despite some major challenges during my stay, Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers outperformed the other Marriott properties I previously stayed at in Hong Kong. The room, while not perfect, provided more hygiene, space and functionality, and the executive lounge provided a pleasant setting with panoramic views.
